The plank of wood

After a thrilling day on the slopes, I made a game-changing decision: I was done with rental gear. The smell and the quality just didn’t cut it anymore. Imagine racing around a track in a semi-truck (that’s the rental) versus cruising up a mountain in a Subaru WRX STI (that’s my new gear). Trust me, after hitting the slopes with my own setup, there’s no turning back.

Finding the right gear was a mini-adventure in itself. I did my homework, tapped into the office’s sports enthusiasts (which, in my workplace, is basically everyone), and stopped by a local sports shop on my way home. After a bit of browsing and some assistance from a friendly staffer, I walked out with a brand-new snowboard, boots, bindings, and a helmet to protect my “precious” good looks. Sure, it set me back $500 Canadian, but it was worth every penny.

The snow conditions may not have been ideal, but the experience was nothing short of fantastic. I’m committed to honing my skills and trying out new tricks on the slopes. After all, I’ve got another year here, and since the Winter Games are winter-centric, I figure I should dive into the snowboarding scene and see where it takes me!
