I try to approach life with understanding and forgiveness, but there are moments when my patience wears thin, especially with those who refuse to accept a simple “no.” Recently, I found myself in a rather absurd situation involving golf carts. Yes, golf carts. I never thought I’d be in a position where I’d have to justify why there were no more golf carts available. Yet, here I am, explaining to grown adults why there are no carts left.
To make matters worse, I was met with a threat. A threat over a golf cart! “You will be arrested if I see you driving this buggy that you say is broken,” they said. Can you imagine? Threatening legal action over a golf cart shortage? It’s moments like these that make me question the maturity of some individuals. How insecure must one be to resort to such threats over a trivial matter?
This incident is indicative of a larger issue I’ve noticed here in Doha. It often feels like dealing with a group of persistent children. They’ll ask for something repeatedly until you’re tempted to just give in and say, “Fine, take it.” I sometimes worry about my future parenting skills if I can’t hold my ground with these “little shits,” as I affectionately call them.
Perhaps I’ll use this as an excuse to treat myself tonight. A quiet dinner alone sounds like the perfect remedy to this day of absurdity.
