Friends in need

It’s winter back home, and while I should be bundled up in my heavy coat and jeans, sipping on hot soup, I find myself here in the desert, sporting shorts and a t-shirt, wondering what I’m going to do after these “Games.” I mean, who would have thought I’d be contemplating my next move in such a warm climate while my friends back home are probably building snowmen?

Speaking of friends, I recently received a message from one going through a tough time. I wish I could be more help, but here I am, in my office-slash-garage, trying to figure out how to offer support from afar. It’s moments like these that make you realize the imperfections of our world. When we’re young, life seems so promising, but as we grow older, responsibilities pile up, and suddenly, you’re wondering where all the fun went.

Life is full of decisions with uncertain outcomes. While some people try to plan every step, I find that the best adventures happen when you throw caution to the wind and just go with the flow. So, my advice to my friend (and anyone else feeling a bit lost) is to embrace the unpredictability of life. Think of life plans less like rigid instructions and more like a map with countless roads and highways.

Every road presents a choice, and each choice shapes your journey. But remember, it’s okay to take the scenic route. Sometimes, it’s the unexpected turns that lead to the most memorable experiences. So, here’s to embracing life’s twists and turns, and to always being open to going left when everyone else is going right.
